5AA Notes For 13th Sept

The discussion subject for today was digital television.
Make sure when you are buying a television make sure it is a true high definition television with the key question to ask is ;
  • Does this television have a true 1920 x 1080 display
This refers to the number of horizontal pixels by number of vertical pixels
You can however get 1024x 768 displays being sold as hi definition (in reality they're not ) .
So what do most tv stations broadcast at?
Most are broadcast in 852 x 576 , some hi-def channels at 1280 x 720 and a couple at 1920 x 1080 ( that is true hi definition)
Hence the lack of extreme clarity as you are asking 576 to expand to 1080.
DVDs
Blu-ray dvd discs are all 1080p , hence the reason they look so good
Normal DVDs are 852 x 576
Digital televison either works or it doesnt , there isn't the gray area as with analog televison which can show a "fuzzy" picture.
You may need to buy a new antenna and make sure it comes from a reputable dealer / installer so you can receive the digital signal.
